About this course
Who this course is for
You want paid bookkeeping work, or you run a small business and are tired of handing a shoebox of receipts to an accountant every year. Either way you need the same thing: the mechanics of double entry, a month end routine you can repeat, and the vocabulary to talk to an accountant without guessing.
This course is text based and self paced. Every module ends with a quiz, and the final exam issues a certificate with a public verification link.
What is inside
Four modules: the language of accounts and double entry, recording day to day transactions, reconciliation and month end, and the reports plus the tax and compliance context in the US and UK.
What it is not
This is a certificate of completion from FastSkillsAcademy, not a licence and not an accountancy qualification such as AAT or CPA. See how our certification works. It is strong evidence of practical skill for bookkeeping and accounts assistant roles, and it is a solid foundation if you later study for a chartered qualification.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need maths beyond basic arithmetic?
No. Bookkeeping is addition, subtraction and consistency. If you can keep a careful list, you can do this work.
Is this the same as an AAT or CPA qualification?
No. It is a certificate of completion covering practical bookkeeping. It is useful evidence for bookkeeping and accounts assistant roles and a good foundation before a chartered qualification, but it is not an accredited accountancy award.
Does the course cover software?
It teaches the underlying records, then shows how those records appear in cloud software such as QuickBooks or Xero, so the knowledge transfers whichever package your employer uses.
Does it cover both US and UK rules?
Yes, at the practical level: retention periods, sales tax versus VAT, and the differences in terminology you will meet in job adverts on both sides of the Atlantic.
