US Citizenship Practice Test 6: Colonial Period and Independence

10 questions. Pass mark 60%. Free, unlimited retakes, explanation on every answer.

This test covers the founding period: who wrote the Declaration of Independence, when it was adopted, the original thirteen states, the Constitutional Convention and the Federalist Papers. It is the densest section of the official list for dates and names.

In the real interview the officer asks these orally, and precise dates matter. Seventeen seventy six for the Declaration and seventeen eighty seven for the Constitution are the two most commonly confused answers on the entire test.

Study tip for this theme: attach each name to a single action. Jefferson wrote the Declaration. Washington was the first President and the Father of Our Country. Franklin was a diplomat and the first Postmaster General. Madison, Hamilton and Jay wrote the Federalist Papers under the name Publius.
